Major countries should take the lead in respecting the authority of international law and fulfilling their obligations under it, China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
Mao was asked to comment on U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks that he doesn't need international law and that his power is limited only by his "own morality."
"The international law based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter is the cornerstone of the current international order and a crucial basis for settling international disputes. Upholding international law is key to upholding international fairness and justice and preventing a return to the law of the jungle. Major countries should take the lead in respecting the authority of international law and fulfilling their obligations under it," said Mao.
