Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, held talks with Malick Ndiaye, the president of the Senegalese National Assembly, in Beijing on Tuesday.
During the talks, Zhao said China is willing to work with Senegal to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and the various initiatives of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), enrich the content of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, and make greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
He noted that Senegal has publicly reiterated its unwavering adherence to the one-China principle, which China highly appreciates. Both sides should expand high-quality, mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen strategic alignment between China's 15th Five-Year Plan and Senegal's Vision 2050 development strategy, and explore potential for cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, new energy, and the digital economy.
Zhao called on the two sides to take the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to deepen exchanges in culture, sports, and other fields.
China appreciates Senegal's active support for the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the four global initiatives, Zhao said.
Zhao said that the National People's Congress of China is willing to work with the Senegalese National Assembly to strengthen legislative cooperation and create a sound legal environment for pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. The two sides should also enhance coordination and cooperation in multilateral mechanisms to strengthen the voice of the Global South.
Ndiaye said that Senegal firmly upholds the one-China principle and highly appreciates China-proposed four global initiatives. Senegal is willing to continue working with China to advance the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen cooperation in various fields, implement the outcomes of the FOCAC, and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, adding that Senegal highly appreciates China's practice of whole-process people's democracy.
The Senegalese National Assembly is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the National People's Congress of China and play a positive role in promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, he said.
