A promotional video for the China Media Group (CMG)'s upcoming 2026 Spring Festival Gala made its debut at an outdoor event in Santiago, the capital city of Chile, on Sunday, delighted spectators with a series of colorful performances and offering an immersive Chinese cultural experience.

Thousands of Chilean residents gathered in downtown Santiago for a host of activities to showcase the festive atmosphere of the fast-approaching Chinese New Year, with a promo video for the CMG Spring Festival Gala being among the highlights.

Recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most-watched annual television program, the hours-long television extravaganza is broadcast on the eve of the Chinese New Year and features a host of entertaining features and performances which shine a spotlight on Chinese culture.

In Santiago, attendees said the promotional video gave them a flavor of the unique charm of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in China. Many said they will be keen to tune in and see the full show, which will this year air on Feb 16.

"I am really looking forward to watching these programs. I love seeing such diverse cultures in Chile," said Nicolas Moreira, one of the spectators.

"I came here to celebrate the Spring Festival. I love celebrating the Spring Festival every year because I love the Chinese culture. I have a close connection with China. I've been studying Chinese for many years, so I have a strong emotional bond with the country. Everything in the promotional video was so vivid, including the dragon dance, the hairstyles, and the costumes. The Spring Festival Gala promo reminded me of everything I experienced in China, bringing back all those wonderful memories, and it even made me feel kind of nostalgic," said Karen Quijada, another attendee.

The event also featured interactive activities allowing locals to experience Chinese handicrafts, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese cuisine, and Chinese-language cultural and creative products, giving attendees opportunities to feel the diverse charm of the traditional Chinese culture firsthand.

Known as "Chunwan" in Chinese, the Spring Festival gala has been broadcast live annually since 1983 and is regarded as a major cultural symbol for the Chinese New Year celebrations in China.

China continued to make headway in environmental protection throughout 2025, with notable improvements in both air quality and surface water conditions, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

According to the Ministry, the average concentration of PM2.5 in 339 cities at the prefectural level and above stood at 28.0 micrograms per cubic meter, marking a year-on-year decrease of 4.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the average PM10 concentration reached 48 micrograms per cubic meter, down by 2.0 percent compared to the previous year.

Excluding days affected by exceptional sand and dust weather, the average proportion of days with good air quality was 89.3 percent, an increase of 1.9 percentage points from 2024.

In terms of surface water quality, monitoring data showed further improvement nationwide.

Among 3,641 state-monitored surface water sections, 91.4 percent were rated as good quality (Grade I-III), up by 1.0 percentage point year-on-year.

The proportion of sections with inferior quality (below Grade V, the lowest level in China's five-tier water quality rating system) remained stable at 0.6 percent.

Key river basins, including the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Pearl River, Songhua River, Huaihe River, Haihe River, and Liaohe River, as well as rivers in northwestern and southwestern regions and those in east China's provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian, recorded good-quality water in 93.0 percent of monitored sections, an improvement of 0.6 percentage points.

The below-Grade V proportion in these basins was 0.4 percent, a slight increase of 0.1 percentage points.

Among 209 key lakes and reservoirs under observation, 78.5 percent attained good water quality, representing a rise of 1.4 percentage points from the previous year. The share of those with inferior water quality dropped by 1.0 percentage points to 3.3 percent.
