China and Uruguay have set a good example of win-win cooperation between economies of different sizes, said President Xi Jinping during his talks with President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Yamandu Orsi in Beijing on Tuesday.
At the invitation of Xi, Orsi is on a state visit to China from Feb 1 to 7.
"I'm pleased to meet with you, Mr. President Orsi. You have visited China three times. You are a good friend of the Chinese people and also the first head of state of a Latin American country to visit China this year. China and Uruguay established diplomatic relations on the same day 38 years ago. Over the past 38 years, no matter how the international situation has changed, the two countries have always adhered to the principle of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation, setting a good example of peaceful coexistence between different social systems, win-win cooperation between economies of different sizes, and exchanges and mutual learning between different civilizations," said Xi.
Orsi expressed Uruguay's willingness to deepen cooperation with China.
"Your Excellency President Xi Jinping, Uruguay attaches great importance to this state visit to China, which is reflected in the fact that we sent a delegation of a very high level. Today marks the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and our comprehensive strategic partnership is at its best in history. Uruguay would like to further deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields," said Orsi.
