A video footage released by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China's Sichuan Province last week features a giant panda cub clingy to its mother.

The footage, filmed at the Star Giant Panda Nursery House of the base in February 2025, reveals the exceptionally clingy cub playfully attempting to rouse its sleeping mother. The young panda is captured nibbling the mother panda's ear and, when that doesn't work, burrowing deeper into her embrace, seeking comfort and closeness.

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a world-renowned institution for the conservation of giant pandas. The base is famous for its work in protecting and breeding giant pandas, red pandas and other endangered wild animal species unique to China, as well as its educational outreach programs. It is now a major tourist attraction for both domestic and overseas panda enthusiasts.

China made public a work plan on Friday to further upgrade service consumption infrastructures and support housekeeping, elderly care and childcare sectors.

The document, jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other departments, outlined 64 measures to boost service consumption, including traditional sectors like catering and accommodation, tourism, as well as elderly care and childcare.

Emerging growth sectors, such as housekeeping, performance services and inbound consumption, are also covered.

These measures will create new consumption scenarios amid efforts to drive service consumption and meet people's growing needs for a better life, according to the ministry.
