A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday that U.S. companies in Hong Kong are showing growing confidence in the Special Administrative Region's business environment and development prospects, citing a new report from the American Chamber of Commerce.
Lin Jian, the spokesman, was responding to a media query at a press conference in Beijing regarding the 2026 Hong Kong Business Confidence Survey, recently released by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, which indicates that U.S. companies operating in the region are increasingly optimistic about its business environment and are confident in its future development prospects.
"The report shows that 86 percent of surveyed companies believe Hong Kong remains competitive as an international business hub, 92 percent have no intention of relocating their headquarters, and 94 percent show confidence in Hong Kong's rule of law. These figures demonstrate the growing confidence of U.S. enterprises in Hong Kong's future and business environment," Li said.
"At present, Hong Kong is moving from order to prosperity, with a booming economy, and with its status as an international financial, shipping, and trade center remaining strong. It consistently ranks near the top in global indices. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) [in October 2025] put forward a series of major measures to promote Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. With a broader outlook for future development, we believe more companies, including those from the U.S., will invest and do business in Hong Kong, sharing in the dividends of Chinese modernization and the 'One Country, Two Systems' framework," said the spokesman.
