The current China-Arab friendship is defined by close ties, extensive cooperation and a positive outlook, said League of Arab States (LAS) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit in an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG).

In the interview aired on Friday, Aboul-Gheit noted that while the Arab nations had endured severe destruction in the past and some countries still face difficulties today, the region has largely maintained overall stability and is moving toward greater unity.

"The Arab nation passed through also most difficult times through successive wars with Israel, as well as what they call in the West the Arab Spring. The Arab Spring damaged lots of Arab countries. Since then 2011, people in many Arab countries have been suffering. Thank God that we are coming out -- intact, one piece, solid -- and working for the unity of Arab countries," said Aboul-Gheit.

He emphasized that the essence of China's partnership with the Arab world -- distinct from Western models of cooperation -- lies in its principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs and its sincere commitment to cooperation.

"No foreign intervention and no emphasis on any aspect of the relationship, but friendship and working together. That is the main feature of Chinese work with Arab countries," he said.

When asked for comments on the China-Arab friendship, Aboul-Gheit highlighted three keywords: "Solid, full of cooperation, hopefully a great success."

Founded in March 1945, League of Arab States is a regional international organization established to strengthen unity among Arab countries. It currently has 22 member states. Throughout its eight-decade history, the LAS has been dedicated to enhancing cooperation among its members and promoting their collective interests.

China and the LAS established relations in 1956. The two sides in 2018 entered into a strategic partnership characterized by comprehensive cooperation, common development and a future-oriented vision.

France and Canada opened consulates in Nuuk, Greenland's capital, on Friday to show support for their NATO ally Denmark.

It comes amid repeated threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to acquire the Arctic territory, which have caused months of strained relations with Europe.

France is the first European Union (EU) country to establish a diplomatic mission in Greenland.

Jean-Noel Poirier has taken up the post as the French consul general in Nuuk, a move to strengthen France's consular network, the French Foreign Ministry said in a post on social media X.

Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Canadian Governor General Mary Simonand and Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt attended the opening ceremony of Canada's new consulate.

Simonand will also meet with Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen during her stay, local media reported.

Greenland, the world's largest island, is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with Copenhagen retaining control over defense and foreign policy. Since returning to office in 2025, Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to "obtain" Greenland, a move that has been repeatedly rejected by Europe.
