The Chinese Consulate General in New York held a reception to celebrate the 2026 Spring Festival on Friday, featuring promotional videos of China Media Group’s (CMG) Spring Festival Gala and bringing a festive atmosphere to the gathering.

The event brought together more than 600 representatives of overseas Chinese and individuals from academic institutions within the Consular district.

Addressing the reception, Consul General Chen Li said that under the guidance of the two heads of state, China-U.S. relations have maintained overall stability, with people-to-people exchanges showing gradual improvement.

"The development of China-U.S. relations depends on not only high-level dialogue and communication across various sectors, but also the efforts and contributions made by each overseas Chinese national and student. This year is an important year for China-U.S. relations. It will bring more opportunities and development forward for overseas Chinese and students in the consular district. I hope you will remain confident, stay focused, and continue to serve as an envoy of friendship between the two peoples," he said.

Speaking to the CMG, many attendees said they are proud of China's development in recent years.

"As a Chinese, I think China's development is a strong source of confidence for all overseas Chinese to seek individual development. We're very proud of China's progress," said Zhang Jie, an overseas Chinese living in the U.S.

"A stronger China will lead to more opportunities for us overseas Chinese to invest and do business back home. When the country becomes stronger, Chinese people both at home and abroad can be more assured and confident in pursuing more opportunities for development. That's a very good thing," said Chen Heng, chairman of the Fukien American Association.

Chinese compatriots and overseas student representatives said that celebrating the Spring Festival together at the consulate general allowed them to experience the festive atmosphere while also deeply feeling the care and warmth from the motherland.

They said that the Spring Festival is not only the most important traditional festival of the Chinese nation, but also an important cultural bond enhancing family ties and cultural identity.

They added that China's development in recent years have boosted the confidence of overseas Chinese and students, inspiring them to present a true, multi-dimensional China in an all-round way to the rest of the world.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the event featured a series of vibrant activities, including traditional dance and instrumental performances.

Promotional videos of the CMG 2026 Spring Festival Gala were also played at the event, highlighting its cultural appeal and contemporary features, which drew widespread attention from attendees.
