Seychelles President Patrick Herminie has expressed his hope to enhance cooperation with China in green and low-carbon initiatives.

In an interview with China Media Group aired on Friday, Herminie shared his insights on the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the field of green development while emphasizing the significance of the environment for island states.

"It's big, because for us, our environment is of prominent importance to island states in the middle of the Indian Ocean, you have sea level rising, coral bleaching and stuff like that, migration of fish, so many things against us. So it is in our advantage to ensure that the marine economy, so to speak, prospers in the country with the help of people who has the expertise and knowledge in that area," said the president.

Herminie praised China's leading role in agritechnology and green products, emphasizing his desire for assistance from China.

"They have agriculture not only trying to export to China, but China now is the leader in agritech, you know, hydroponics and stuff like that. We have very limited land in Seychelles, as you know, so we have to start growing vertically. And this is one area where I personally would seek the help of China eventually. Yesterday there was a formal handing over of some e-bikes as part of the Carbon Free zone initiative, green environment. We're on the right track. Yeah, I think we're doing well in that issue," he noted.

On Jan. 29, 2026, a handover ceremony of supplies for the China-aided Construction and Implementation of South-South Cooperation Low Carbon Demonstration Zone for Addressing Climate Change was held in Seychelles.

China recorded 30.08 million inbound visits by foreign nationals under visa-free policies in 2025, accounting for 73.1 percent of all foreign entries and marking a 49.5 percent year-on-year increase, according to data released by the National Immigration Administration (NIA).

The significant growth was driven by a series of visa facilitation measures implemented to enhance international travel and business exchanges.

Key policies include unilateral visa-free entry for citizens of 50 countries, a 240-hour transit visa exemption for nationals of 55 countries at 65 designated ports and mutual visa exemption agreements with 29 countries. These measures are designed to streamline entry for short-term business, tourism, and transit purposes.

Travelers are advised to consult official sources such as the NIA and the Consular Affairs website for the latest policy details before planning their trips, as regulations are subject to change.
