Grassroots activities undertaken by members of China's top political advisory body helped to better "serve the people" in 2025 by addressing the concerns of communities and meeting people's needs at the local level across the country, a Chinese official said in Beijing on Tuesday.
Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was speaking at a press conference in Beijing one day before the annual session of China's top political advisory body gets underway.
While summarizing the achievements made by CPPCC members last year, Liu noted more than 6,000 activities were carried out up and down the nation to help address problems at the local level.
"The activity of 'Serving the People' by CPPCC members is a new measure undertaken by the 14th CPPCC National Committee to apply the people-centered development philosophy and to ensure that the CPPCC truly serves the people. Since its launch in 2023, more than 15,000 activities have been carried out, including over 6,000 last year. The CPPCC members, based on the practical realities they face, leveraged their strength and reached out to the grassroots communities and people from different sectors, actively communicated the policy measures of the Party and government, built consensus across sectors and worked to address people's concerns. These efforts have contributed to the prosperity of our entire nation, as well as enriching lives of every Chinese family," said Liu.
Liu also stated that activities aimed at improving public services were further advanced in 2025, driven by enhanced mechanisms, refined plans, and strengthened guarantees, all of which helped provide essential support across various sectors and among different groups of people.
"With various programs focused on promoting science and technology, health, and culture in local communities, the CPPCC members visited farmlands, pastoral areas, mining sites, and factory floors to provide training on agricultural technology, disseminate knowledge on desertification prevention and control, and help foreign trade enterprises solve problems. They also visited local villages and communities in plateau and border areas to help train primary-level medical staff, give lectures on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, and conduct screenings for congenital heart disease in children. They actively participated in activities to provide door-to-door assistance for families and offered post-disaster reconstruction volunteer services, visited people living with disabilities and disaster-stricken locals to help them solve problems.," said the spokesman.
In addition, Liu noted that among the reports submitted by CPPCC members last year, over 3,000 focused on key public concerns such as employment, social security, healthcare, childbirth, education, and elderly care. These reports have played a vital role in addressing the issues that matter most to the people, he said.
Liu also stressed that sustained efforts will be undertaken by CPPCC members to advance their work in the coming years.
The press conference came on the eve of the "two sessions", a major event in China's political calendar, which refers to the annual meetings of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's highest organ of state power, and the National Committee of the CPPCC, the top political advisory body. The meetings will gather thousands of national lawmakers and political advisors from across the country to the Chinese capital.
This year, the fourth session of the 14th NPC is set to open on Thursday, while the opening of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee is scheduled for Wednesday.
