With this year's "two sessions" -- the annual meetings of China's top legislature and top political advisory body — set to open in Beijing this month, international observers say they hope that China’s accelerating modernization will boost global peace and development.
"The two sessions are the most significant political event in China. The world should turn its attention to Beijing to understand how China will chart its development course for the year ahead. Chinese modernization is a grand undertaking, and its most distinctive feature is that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government consistently put the people at the core of their policies," said Marta Montoro, executive chairwoman of Spain's Catedra China Foundation.
"What I want to emphasize is that, against the backdrop of the current complex international situation, China's two sessions are of vital importance," said Marcos Pires, a professor of international relations at Sao Paulo State University, who added that topics discussed during the two sessions, including China's economic and social development, carry global significance.
"The leaders of Russia and China maintain a friendly and harmonious relationship, with continuous communication across many agenda items. It is precisely because of their great attention that bilateral economic and trade relations have been able to develop steadily. I believe there are many promising areas for cooperation between Russia and China, including artificial intelligence-related fields and what China calls the 'low-altitude economy.' China is making significant progress in this area -- not only in equipment but also in airspace management methods and monitoring technologies. This offers extremely valuable experience for us," said Russian Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov.
"China has done tremendously well, economically and socially. You will agree with me that as it stands now, China is the world's second biggest economy, and they have done tremendously well in terms of poverty reduction, GDP growth, and the like. They are doing everything possible to ensure that they keep on going in that direction. So, I think China is on the right trajectory. I know that as they launch their five-year plan, they will definitely put in place measures that will ensure enhancement in these areas that I have talked about. I see so much transformation in their economy, I see so much transformation in their education sector, literally in every sector. We will see China literally taking center stage in the global economy right now, because China I think is proving to the world out there that they can be trusted," said Jeff Ngoma, a Zambian political scientist.
