China opposes any form of unilateral tariffs, which serve no one's interests, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.
Guo was responding to a media query on a new U.S. investigation into some of its biggest trading partners including China.
"China's position on addressing China-U.S. economic and trade issues has always been consistent and clear: we oppose unilateral tariff measures in any form. Tariff and trade wars are in no one's interest. Both parties should resolve relevant issues through consultation on the basis of equality, mutual respect and reciprocity. The so-called 'overcapacity' is a false narrative. China opposes using it as a pretext for political manipulation," he said.
