Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday launched the first train in 2026 specially running along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

The freight train, fully loaded with chemical materials, departed from Zhundongbei Station in Xinjiang's Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, and will pass through Pingxiang Station in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region before heading to Vietnam.

Xinjiang railway authorities said that in addition to increasing the frequency of China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains, they plan to add specialty goods such as chemical products to regular transportation this year to ensure the stability and smooth flow of the international supply chain.

Serving as a vital logistics artery connecting China with global marketplaces including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Central Asia, the corridor offers three modes of transportation: rail-sea intermodal transport, international railway services and cross-border road transport. Chongqing Municipality in southwest China serves as a key logistics hub within this network.

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor now connects over 580 ports in more than 120 countries and regions worldwide.
