US stocks close mixed

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 61.07 points, or 0.13 percent, to 46,504.67. The S&P 500 added 7.37 points, or 0.11 percent, to 6,582.69. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 38.23 points, or 0.18 percent, to 21,879.18.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with real estate and technology leading the gainers by going up 1.48 percent and 0.73 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and health led the laggards by dropping 1.49 percent and 0.68 percent, respectively.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 49 pips to 6.8929 against the U.S. dollar Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
