U.S. stocks close higher

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 165.21 points, or 0.36 percent, to 46,669.88. The S&P 500 added 29.14 points, or 0.44 percent, to 6,611.83. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 117.16 points, or 0.54 percent, to 21,996.34.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the green, with consumer discretionary and energy leading the gainers by going up 0.8 percent and 0.77 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and health led the laggards by dropping 0.42 percent and 0.38 percent, respectively.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 75 pips to 6.8854 against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
