The latest official data from the Shanghai Customs show the Shanghai Port has set new records in both foreign trade container throughput and the international vessel traffic in the first quarter of 2026.
In the first three months of this year, the Shanghai Port handled 8.494 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of imports and exports, while the number of inbound and outbound international vessels reached 11,000, both marking the highest level of the corresponding period on record.
The Shanghai Port has now opened more than 350 international shipping routes, leading to over 700 ports in more than 200 other countries and regions worldwide.

China's box office revenue for 2026 has reached 12.48 billion yuan (about 1.83 billion U.S. dollars) as of 10:50 on Monday, with Shanghai emerging as the country's leading city in ticket sales during the first quarter, according to the latest data released by online platforms.
Shanghai ranked first among all cities in terms of ticket sales during the New Year holiday and retained its top position over the Chinese New Year period with a record 197 million yuan in ticket sales -- the fifth consecutive year that Shanghai has led the city box office during the Chinese New Year season.
Beyond holiday releases, Shanghai also leads the country in cinema numbers, screening sessions, and the proportion of high-frequency moviegoers, reinforcing its reputation as China's "city of film."
