China hopes that the European Union (EU) can view its economic and trade relations with China from an all-round, objective and positive perspective, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Lin Jian, the spokesman was asked to comment on the EU's push to bar Chinese suppliers from its critical infrastructure under a proposed new Cybersecurity Act.
"Chinese competent authorities have already submitted assessment opinions to the European side concerning the EU's revised Cybersecurity Act, expressing China's serious concerns and political stance and hoping that the EU can take them seriously," he said.
"China is closely following the relevant legislative developments in the EU and willing to engage in dialogue and communication on this matter. China hopes that the EU can view its economic and trade relations with China from an all-round, objective and positive perspective, abide by World Trade Organization rules and market principles, and stop practices that harm both sides. If the EU insists on punitive and discriminatory treatment to Chinese companies, China will take resolute measures to defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," Lin said.
