Fatal traffic accident in Sau Mau Ping

Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sau Mau Ping today (May 13) in which a woman died.

At 1.50pm, a taxi driven by a 70-year-old man was travelling downhill along Chun Wah Road. When approaching a sitting-out area on Choi Ha Road, the taxi suspectedly went out of control and mounted the pavement, knocking down two female pedestrians.

Sustaining serious leg injuries, the 38-year-old female pedestrian was rushed to United Christian Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.26pm. Another 31-year-old female pedestrian sustained leg injuries and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in unconscious state. The taxi driver suffered from chest injuries and was sent to United Christian Hospital in conscious state. A 62-year-old male passenger suffering from chest and leg injuries, and a 62-year-old female passenger sustaining chest, back and neck injuries, were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in conscious state.

The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.

Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is under way.

Correctional officers stop person in custody from attacking staff member

Correctional officers at Lo Wu Correctional Institution stopped a female person in custody from attacking a staff member today (May 13).

At 4.20pm today, a 36-year-old female person in custody suddenly became emotional and attacked a correctional officer inside the Day Orderly Officer's office. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and applied oleoresin capsicum (OC) foam to subdue her after repeated warnings were ignored.

During the incident, the officer sustained injuries to her face and ear. After examination and treatment by an institution Medical Officer, she was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant sustained injuries to her face and neck. She did not need to be sent to a public hospital after examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The assailant was sentenced to undergo drug treatment at the institution for the offence of possession of a dangerous drug in February 2026.
