The 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting that concluded Saturday in east China's Suzhou City has actively sought the broadest common ground for all parties to participate in economic and trade cooperation, China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said.

Participants of the meeting, including representatives from 21 APEC economies, APEC observers, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, held candid, in-depth and constructive discussions and achieved fruitful results, according to a press conference held by China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Saturday.

The two-day meeting ended with an issuance of the 2026 APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Joint Statement and the approval of the APEC Roadmap for Innovative, Competitive and Resilient Services.

Elaborating on the outcomes, Wang said the meeting reaffirmed strong support for the long-term vision of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, with parties committed to advancing regional economic integration.

The meeting also sent a joint message on advancing the WTO reform and drew up a blueprint for services sector development over the next decade, he said.

"All parties unanimously supported the temporary exemption of tariffs on electronic transmissions to ensure that digital markets remain open and predictable. At the same time, all parties spoke highly of the positive role played by plurilateral negotiations, such as the initiatives outlined in the joint statement. The relevant participants will continue their efforts to promote the inclusion of the agreements of investment facilitation and e-commerce into the WTO legal framework," said Wang.

Other achievements included a new consensus on expanding digital trade cooperation, with substantive progress made on a framework document for regional digital trade cooperation, and actively exploring new measures for green trade development.

Given the challenging international circumstances, these outcomes are hard-won, Wang said, adding that China will continue to work with other economies to implement the important consensus reached at this meeting, facilitate further outcomes and consensus, and make positive contributions to the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting later this year.

As an important institutional meeting customarily held midway through the APEC host year, the trade ministers' meeting is tasked with contributing outcomes to the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and serves as a barometer of economic and trade policy trends in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the third Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference for the information technology and telecommunications, battery energy storage systems, and agricultural sectors in Hangzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province on Sunday morning.

Sharif arrived in Hangzhou on Saturday for an official visit to China that will run through Tuesday, at the invitation of Premier Li Qiang.

As one of the key events during the prime minister's visit, the B2B investment conference brought together senior executives and industry leaders from both countries.

During the event, Sharif witnessed the singing of multiple economic and trade agreements between the two countries and delivered a speech to the attending business representatives. In his remarks, he specially commemorated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan.

The prime minister said that substantial memorandums of understanding (MOUs) had been signed during his previous visits, as well as this Hangzhou conference. He stressed that these MOUs need to be transformed into formal agreements, expecting further bilateral cooperation in four key sectors including agriculture.

Business representatives from both countries started discussions on cooperation at the match-making area right after the event's opening ceremony. With over 500 Chinese and Pakistani companies in attendance, the event highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries in emerging industries.

Prime Minister Sharif will visit a Chinese internet company in Hangzhou on Sunday afternoon.
