China stands ready to work more closely with Pakistan to carry forward traditional friendship, firmly support each other, and continuously expand practical cooperation to achieve more fruitful results in building a community with a shared future for the two countries, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said in Beijing on Monday.
Li made the remarks when holding talks with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is on an official visit to China from Saturday to Tuesday.
Li noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan 75 years ago, the two nations have always stood together through thick and thin, forging an unbreakable friendship.
China is willing to work with Pakistan to advance the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, continue to implement major connectivity projects between the two countries, and strengthen cooperation in fields such as industry, mining, agriculture, livelihoods, and finance, said Li.
China is also ready to import more high-quality products from Pakistan and actively work with Pakistan to upgrade the bilateral free trade agreement, promoting continuous expansion and quality improvement of bilateral trade, Li said.
The two sides may also explore cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green energy to jointly foster new drivers of development, said the Chinese premier.
He stressed that China is willing to deepen cooperation with Pakistan in human resources development and welcomes more young Pakistani students to pursue further studies in China, while expressing hope that Pakistan will continue to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan and create a secure and stable environment for cooperation.
Shehbaz said that developing relations with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy. Pakistan adheres to the one-China principle and stands ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with China, accelerate the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and expand cooperation in trade, agriculture, science and technology, and other fields, he said.
Pakistan welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in and start businesses in Pakistan and will continue to take strong measures to provide a safer and more favorable business environment, Shehbaz said.
Pakistan is willing to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination with China to contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world, said the Pakistani prime minister.
Following the talks, Li and Shehbaz jointly witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering fields such as economy and trade, science and technology, agriculture and food, and human resources.
On the same day, Shehbaz laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes on the Tian'anmen Square.
