The coastal city of Rizhao in east China's Shandong Province has renewed an orange fog warning -- the second highest in the country's three-tier warning system -- for its urban districts of Donggang and Lanshan on Monday, amid weakened visibility.
All offshore vessels in Rizhao have been suspended from operation, as visibility at the Rizhao Port dropped to less than 50 meters.
By Monday evening, more than 30 large cargo vessels remained stranded, with their sailing schedules delayed or loading and unloading operations affected.
The border inspection authority has activated its severe weather emergency protocol to ensure the safety of both vessels and personnel at the port during the heavy fog.
China has a three-tier, color-coded warning system for thick fog, with red being the most serious warning, followed by orange and yellow.
