Farmers in Yuncheng City -- the largest wheat-producing region in north China's Shanxi Province -- are busy seizing the current favorable weather conditions to harvest the ripe wheat crops, as the city begins summer harvest.
In Qucun Village, Yanhu District of Yuncheng City, three harvesters were seen operating in the wheat field of local farmer Dong Huilong. With the machines roaring, golden stalks were quickly threshed and the grain poured into storage.
"The 1,005 mu (about 67 hectares) of wheat crops here can be harvested in just three or four days with three harvesters. We have had plenty of rainfall so far this year, and the grains are quite full. The 1,000-seed weight of grains is 42 grams, and the grain yield is 1,440 jin (720 kilograms) per mu (about 0.067 hectare). This year's yield is pretty good," Dong said.
Local agricultural, electricity and agricultural machinery departments have formed special service teams to provide full-scale support for the wheat harvest.
Summer harvest in Yuncheng City is expected to be completed by June 20.
