Two people were killed and 11 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday, according to a preliminary toll reported by Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
The rescue operations were continuing, said the NNA report.
Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed TV reported that the three-missile strike targeted two apartments near the Aytam gas station junction toward the area of Tahwitat al-Ghadir.
Meanwhile, Israel's military said in a statement that the Israeli air force launched a series of airstrikes in Beirut's southern suburb in Lebanon on Sunday afternoon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said they instructed to launch the strikes "in response" to Hezbollah fire.
On the same day, Hezbollah said its militants used rockets and artillery shells to strike an Israeli force trying to move forward into southern Lebanon. It also claimed to have launched surface-to-air missiles targeting an Israeli warplane in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah further said its militants used suicide drones and artillery shells to attack several Israeli targets in southern Lebanon.
The developments came despite Israel and Lebanon agreeing on Wednesday to implement a ceasefire following trilateral negotiations in Washington.
Analysts said Israel's decision to expand its military operations in Lebanon is aimed at striking Hezbollah before any U.S.-Iran agreement is reached, as well as provoking Iranian dissatisfaction and disrupting the U.S.-Iran negotiation process.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Center of Lebanon's Health Ministry said on Sunday that Israeli attacks on Lebanon had killed 3,613 people and injured 11,072 others since fighting between Israel and Hezbollah resumed on March 2. It was not immediately clear whether the figures included casualties from the latest attack on Sunday.
