China will hold the 2026 Forum on Global Human Rights Governance in Beijing from Thursday to Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian announced at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
Lin made the announcement when responding to a query about this year's forum, which marks the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
"The 2026 Forum on Global Human Rights Governance is to be held in Beijing on June 11 and 12. More than 400 Chinese and foreign guests from nearly 100 countries as well as international and regional organizations, including the UN, will be invited to attend the event," Lin said.
"In addition to an opening ceremony and a plenary session, the forum will feature five sub-forums focusing on topics such as the significance of human rights within the Global Governance Initiative, the status and role of the right to development in the global development of human rights, the protection of the right to development and new challenges in the era of artificial intelligence, green development and human rights protection, and modernization and the free, all-round development of human beings. China looks forward to having all parties engage in exchanges and mutual learning, build consensus around the vision of 'promoting human rights through development', work together to realize the beautiful vision outlined in the Declaration on the Right to Development, and jointly build a fair, reasonable, and inclusive global human rights governance system," he said.
