Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, visited the Central Cadres Training School of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) in Pyongyang on Tuesday.
Xi was accompanied by Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Hundreds of teachers and students lined up outside the school to welcome Xi's arrival, before he was greeted by Kim and other officials.
During their tour of the school, the two leaders visited a classroom, where a teacher was delivering a lecture on China-DPRK ties.
Xi and Kim then toured the campus grounds and learned about the school's infrastructure and teaching arrangements.
In a wooded area between teaching buildings, Xi and Kim together planted a fir tree which will remain evergreen throughout the year, symbolizing the everlasting friendship between the two countries.
A commemorative stele for the tree was unveiled, inscribed in both Chinese and Korean with the phrase: "May the China-DPRK Friendship Last Forever." Xi and Kim shook hands and posed for photos in front of the stele amid applause from officials and students.
Xi arrived in the DPRK capital on Monday to begin a two-day state visit at the invitation of Kim, marking his first trip to the DPRK in seven years.
