The external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been restored after the facility lost off-site power for the 20th time during Russia-Ukraine conflict, said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Saturday.
"Ukraine's ZNPP was reconnected to the electrical grid at 5:50 pm local time today, ending the latest loss of off-site power event after 4.5 hours," the IAEA said on social media platform X.
Following the external power loss, emergency diesel generators at the facility started operating automatically to provide backup electricity for reactor core cooling and other essential nuclear safety functions, it said.
The ZNPP is one of the largest nuclear power facilities in Europe. It has been repeatedly shelled or attacked by drones, raising international concerns about its safety.
