The 13th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Ministerial Meeting will offer a good opportunity for Macao to showcase its development under the "one country, two systems" principle, said an official with the Special Administrative Region (SAR).
The Macao SAR is set to host the ministerial meeting from Wednesday to Sunday, pledging it is fully committed to ensuring the successful delivery of the meeting, said Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office.
这次是一个非常重要的机会，让我们好好表现，一方面就是我们的文化底蕴，另外一方面就是我们的在创新，在发展方面的一些重点项目。所以这次可以说是真正体现一下我们在总体的国家的发展，还有澳门的一国两制之下的重要的发展。 "This is a very important opportunity for us to showcase our strengths -- on the one hand, our cultural heritage, and on the other, our key projects in innovation and development. This meeting offers us a chance to truly demonstrate Macao's significant progress under the 'one country, two systems' principle, as part of the nation's overall development," said Senna Fernandes.
Kong Chi Meng, director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, highlighted Macao's strengths and efforts to promote international cooperation and attract foreign investment.

This year, under the leadership of the Chief Executive, we joined a delegation to visit Spain, Portugal and other countries to expand cooperation. The delegation also included representatives from universities. A series of cooperation agreements have been signed with universities, enterprises and talent agencies in Portugal, and these are now being gradually implemented. Going forward, we will leverage the opportunities presented by the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town built in the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone, to attract more foreign enterprises," Kong said.

The APEC tourism ministerial meeting is one of around 300 APEC-related meetings and events that have taken place or will take place in multiple Chinese cities throughout the year. China will host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen in November, which marks the country's third time hosting the event following Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.
