Resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is a historic mission and an unshakable commitment of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, addressed a gathering in celebration of the CPC's 105th founding anniversary.
"Resolving the Taiwan question and achieving the complete reunification of the motherland is a historic mission to which our Party remains committed and a shared aspiration of all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation," said Xi.
"We must thoroughly implement our Party's overall policy for the new era on resolving the Taiwan question, adhere to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, unite the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots, deepen cross-Strait exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development, resolutely combat 'Taiwan secession' separatist forces, oppose external interference, and firmly advance the cause of national reunification," said Xi.
