U.S. stocks close mixed

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 594.83 points, or 1.14 percent, to 52,900.07. The S and P 500 added 0.01 points to 7,483.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 207.36 points, or 0.80 percent, to 25,832.67.

Eight of the 11 primary S and P 500 sectors ended in green, with health and consumer staples leading the gainers by adding 2.70 percent and 2.41 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services led the laggards by going down 1.46 percent and 0.83 percent, respectively.

European stocks closed higher across the board on Thursday.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index rose 1.67 percent to close at 10,652.87 points. France's CAC 40 index gained 1.65 percent to finish at 8,474.86 points. Germany's DAX index advanced 2.16 percent to end the session at 25,580.88 points.
