China's top political advisor Wang Huning led a party and government delegation to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) for an official goodwill visit from Wednesday to Friday.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was in the DPRK at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the Government of the DPRK.
During his visit to Pyongyang, Wang met with Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK. He also attended a reception commemorating the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, alongside Pak Thae Song, a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, vice president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, and premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK. Additionally, Wang Huning held talks with Jo Yong Won, a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the WPK, and head of the Organization and Guidance Department.
During his meeting with Kim Jong Un, Wang said China is willing to work with the DPRK to resolutely implement the important consensuses reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and countries, effectively leverage the strategic guiding role of top-level exchanges, strengthen communication and exchanges between the two Parties through various forms, further enhance the effectiveness of practical cooperation between the two countries, and continuously consolidate the public foundation of China-DPRK friendship.
Kim said the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance clarified the strategic nature of DPRK-China relations and ensured the strategic direction of bilateral ties. The DPRK would continue to prioritize the development of DPRK-China relations as its most important strategic undertaking, uphold and carry forward the spirit of the treaty, and better benefit the peoples of both countries, he added.
During the meeting with Jo, both Wang and Jo underscored the strategic leadership of the top leaders of the two Parties and countries, and the traditional friendship between the two nations, pledging to elevate bilateral relations and jointly advance the socialist cause. During the three-day trip, Wang visited the China-DPRK Friendship Tower, the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) Martyrs' Cemetery in Sunan District, the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, and the Central Cadres Training School of the WPK in Pyongyang. Wang also paid a visit to Wonsan City, accompanied by Jo.
