China aims to achieve decisive progress in transport network development by 2030 by significantly improving modern integrated transportation system, an official with the Ministry of Transport said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Vice Minister of Transport Xu Chengguang said the ministry will prioritize the construction of major corridors between regions and across river basins during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period, with an aim to complete the construction of 95 percent of the main framework of China's national comprehensive and multidimensional transportation network.
The country's main construction targets by 2030 include: increasing expressway lane mileage by 120,000 kilometers, adding 2,500 kilometers of national high-grade waterways, and building 15 new civil transport airports, Xu said.
According to Xu, China will also prioritize infrastructure renewal and digital-intelligent upgrades, with approximately 80,000 kilometers transport infrastructure expected to receive upgrades by 2030.
In addition, the ministry will place its emphasis on improving the integrated transportation system in modern metropolitan areas and accelerate the development of 20 international and 80 national comprehensive transport hub cities, he said.
"Over the next five years, we will make solid progress in implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan for transport development, make coordinated efforts to promote major strategic tasks, projects, policies and measures, and ensure solid implementation of every task step by step. Looking ahead to 2030, we aim to achieve decisive progress in building China into a strong country in transportation, with a more advanced modern integrated transportation system. The vision of 'pleasant travel for people and smooth flow of goods' will be accelerated into reality," said Xu.
