The Evolving Demands of Future Cockpits

As the automotive industry advances toward the software-defined vehicle (SDV) era, evolving safety standards – including the European New Car Assessment Programme's (Euro NCAP) 2026 protocols – are placing greater emphasis on eyes-on-the-road interaction. At the same time, vehicle cockpits are becoming increasingly display-centric, with essential driving information spread across multiple screens. This fragmented display environment can make eyes-on-the-road interaction more challenging and add complexity to cockpit design.

Delivering Situation-Adaptive Information Across the Windshield

Engineered to address these challenges, LG's UltraView Windshield Display represents a new category of windshield display architecture. It combines a compact focus-free augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) with LG's proprietary Hover Screen in a single optical system, delivering a situation-adaptive viewing experience across the windshield while giving OEMs greater flexibility to design a sleek, uncluttered cockpit. UltraView Windshield Display's hybrid optical architecture dynamically adjusts the size and type of information presented according to driving context.

The focus-free compact AR-HUD projects driving-critical information, including vehicle speed, advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) alerts, and navigation cues at a far virtual distance aligned with the road. LG's proprietary Hover Screen solution presents navigation, vehicle status, HVAC and multimedia content on a large virtual screen at a perceived distance of 1.2 meters. Displaying different types of information at discrete virtual distances, UltraView Windshield Display is designed to help reduce unnecessary eye movement and support eyes-on-the-road interaction.

LG's solution provides a combined field of view of 25 degrees by 7 degrees from a compact, vehicle-ready package of approximately 15 liters, helping strike a balance between display size, windshield coverage and vehicle integration. When inactive, the display leaves no visible black masking on the windshield, helping preserve visibility and a clean, seamless cabin interior.

With automakers shifting from expanding display counts to optimizing cockpit architectures, windshield-based displays are poised to play an important role in future vehicles. According to Omdia, global HUD shipments are projected to more than double by the start of the next decade, growing from 10.21 million units in 2025 to 25.27 million units by 2032. High-density polymer targets floating, dusting and uneven distribution challenges common with powder-based sludge solidifiers

LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- For contractors and operators working with high-water, high-viscosity sludge, one of the most common field challenges is getting treatment material into the sludge rather than leaving it on the surface.

Qingdao SOCO New Material Co., Ltd. is addressing that problem with the launch of SLUSORB 985, a high-density superabsorbent polymer (SAP) developed for sludge solidification under challenging field conditions.

Unlike traditional powder-based SAP products that may float, cake, dust or distribute unevenly in dense sludge environments, SLUSORB 985 is engineered with a high density structure designed to overcome floating issues and penetrate high-viscosity sludge effectively. Once inside the sludge layer, the polymer absorbs free water and helps convert flowing or unstable sludge into a more manageable, non-flowing mass.

The new product is designed for applications such as tailings sludge, coal-washing sludge, sand-washing slurry, river sediment, port dredging sludge, underground sludge ponds, enclosed sludge tanks and other high-viscosity industrial sludge environments.

Many sludge treatment sites do not have ideal mixing conditions, said a spokesperson for SOCO. SLUSORB 985 was developed for those real-world situations. The goal is to make sludge solidification easier to apply, more efficient in contact with free water, and more practical for handling, transport and disposal.

SLUSORB 985 supports a simplified application process. Operators spread the SLUSORB 985 evenly over the sludge surface, allow the material to sink by gravity, let the polymer absorb free water, and then handle the solidified sludge for transport or disposal.

The product is intended to help users:
