Siu Sai Wan Family Medicine Clinic to commence service August 1

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for the Hong Kong Island Cluster announced today (July 28) that Siu Sai Wan Family Medicine Clinic (SSWFMC), located on 2/F, Siu Sai Wan Health Integrated Building, 11 Harmony Road, Siu Sai Wan, Chai Wan, will commence service on August 1 (Saturday). Complementing the Family Medicine Clinics (FMC) in the district, namely Chai Wan Family Medicine Clinic, Wan Tsui Family Medicine Clinic, Shau Kei Wan Jockey Club Family Medicine Clinic, Sai Wan Ho Family Medicine Clinic and North Point Anne Black Family Medicine Clinic, comprehensive one-stop primary healthcare services in the Eastern District will be further enhanced.

Aside from providing doctor consultation services, the SSWFMC will also provide other services through its multidisciplinary healthcare teams such as personalised preventive screenings and care, chronic disease management, vaccinations, and health education. With the commencement of services at the new clinic, service capacity will be increased, and collaboration will be enhanced with primary healthcare services in the district to better address local health needs.

The spokesperson said, "The SSWFMC adopts a family medicine service model and is committed to providing comprehensive, holistic, continuous and prevention-oriented primary healthcare services. The new clinic has both improved the environment and facilities, and strengthened multidisciplinary healthcare collaboration and professional training to further enhance the overall family medicine services in the district."

In order to ensure that the public are aware of the relevant service arrangements, the Hong Kong Island Cluster will inform residents in the district through various channels, including arranging local District Council members to visit the clinic to better understand the clinic's facilities and services. Some patients with chronic illnesses requiring regular follow-ups at the five FMCs in the Eastern District have also been individually notified and arranged with future follow-up appointments at the SSWFMC.

Incoming passenger convicted and jailed for importing duty-not-paid cigarettes

An incoming male passenger was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment and fined $2,000 by the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today (July 28) for importing duty-not-paid cigarettes and failing to declare them to Customs officers, in contravention of the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance (DCO).

Customs officers intercepted a 38-year-old incoming Mainland male passenger at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (July 27) and seized 47 800 duty-not-paid cigarettes, with an estimated market value of about $239,000 and a duty potential of about $158,000, from his personal baggage. The passenger was subsequently arrested.

Customs welcomes the sentence. The custodial sentence has imposed a considerable deterrent effect and reflects the seriousness of the offences.

Customs reminds members of the public that under the DCO, cigarettes are dutiable goods to which the DCO applies. Any person who imports, deals with, possesses, sells or buys illicit cigarettes commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
