A series of explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital Kiev early Wednesday as Russia and Ukraine traded fresh attacks on each other.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that Russian forces had seized control of a new settlement in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops launched strikes against Ukrainian transportation and energy infrastructure, logistics centers, and drone manufacturing and storage sites, the ministry said.
The ministry also reported continued attacks on Ukrainian ports, vessels, and related infrastructure, asserting that these facilities have been utilized to resupply the Ukrainian army.
On Tuesday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that 226 combat clashes took place along the frontlines over the past 24 hours, with Ukrainian troops successfully repelling Russian offensives across multiple directions.
Ukrainian missile and artillery units targeted Russian troop concentrations and drone operation points, and shot down 1,792 Russian drones, the General Staff said.
Early Wednesday, air raid sirens blared across Kiev, followed by a series of loud explosions.
Shortly thereafter, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the city and surrounding areas were under a ballistic missile attack, with local air defense systems urgently activated to intercept the incoming threats.
Klitschko added that a non-residential zone in Kiev's Obolon district was struck, and emergency rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene.
According to the Kiev City Military Administration, the airstrikes sparked fires at two storage facilities in the Obolon and Sviatoshyn districts and directly struck an office building elsewhere in the city.
