Polling date for 2026 Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Elections gazetted
A Government spokesman said today (August 7) that the Chief Executive has, in accordance with section 16 of the Schedule to the Chief Executive Election Ordinance, specified Sunday, November 22, 2026, as the polling date for the 2026 Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Elections to return elected members of the new term of the Election Committee. The relevant notice has been published in the Gazette today.

In addition, the nomination period for the elections will run from October 7 to October 20. The Chief Electoral Officer will publish a notice specifying the period within which and the address at which nomination forms are to be submitted, and will announce the relevant details in due course.
The Government will continue to work closely with the Electoral Affairs Commission to actively carry out preparatory work, with a view to ensuring that the elections will be conducted smoothly in an open, honest, fair, safe and orderly manner, with arrangements that are efficient and user-friendly.

EMSD announces latest sampling results for legionella at fresh water cooling towers
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (August 7) announced that the department tested 72 water samples collected from cooling towers in 45 buildings in its routine inspections in July 2026. None of them were detected to have a total legionella count at or above the upper threshold, which is 1 000 colony-forming units per millilitre.
The EMSD also announced the locations of buildings which were served with nuisance notices during the preceding three-month period as the total legionella count was found in the fresh water cooling towers to be equal to or above the upper threshold.
The EMSD publishes the latest statistics of the above information on a half-monthly basis on its website: www.emsd.gov.hk/en/other_regulatory_services/cooling_towers/water_sampling/index.html.
The EMSD reminds the owners of fresh water cooling towers that they have the responsibility to design, operate and maintain cooling towers properly. They should arrange regular inspections, timely maintenance and periodic testing of the water quality in their cooling towers in accordance with the Code of Practice for Fresh Water Cooling Towers issued by the department to prevent the proliferation of legionella.
