Jackson Jobe has sparkling debut to help the Tigers rout the Giants 8-0

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jackson Jobe held the San Francisco Giants to one hit in five scoreless innings in his first outing in the majors more than a year and the Detroit Tigers broke it open with a six-run seventh inning in an 8-0 victory Saturday night.

Jobe (1-0) had been sidelined after Tommy John surgery in 2025. The right-hander struck out four and walked one. Willy Adames’ one-out single in the fourth was the only hit Jobe allowed.

Relievers Tyler Holton and Ty Madden combined on the two-hitter. San Francisco did not get a runner past first base.

Jobe’s most recent big-league appearance came May 28, 2025, when he started against the Giants in a 4-3 Tigers win in Detroit.

On Saturday, it was a 0-0 game through five innings. In the sixth, Giants starter Landen Roupp (7-11) walked the bases loaded. With one out, reliever Keaton Winn walked Spencer Torkelson to force home a run.

Detroit put up the six-spot in the seventh. The Tigers got to Trent Harris for three runs. Making his major-league debut, Harris allowed a double to Zach McKinstry and an RBI single by Kevin McGonigle before retiring Gleyber Torres on a grounder to second.

Dillon Dingler followed with a double down the left-field line to bring home McGonigle to make it 3-0. That was Dingler’s 80th RBI of the season.

Lefty Reiver Sanmartin then replaced Harris. The Tigers tagged Sanmartin for four hits in the inning, including a two-run double by pinch-hitter Eduardo Valencia, an RBI triple by Max Clark and a run-scoring single by Javier Baez that upped Detroit’s lead to 7-0.

Roupp allowed one run on two hits in 5-1/3 innings. He walked five and struck out three.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Andrew Vaughn singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Minnesota Twins 4-3 on Saturday night.

William Contreras led off the eighth with a bloop single to center off Jeff Hoffman (6-8). Brandon Lockridge pinch-ran for Contreras and stole second.

After Hoffman retired Garrett Mitchell on a fly to center, Yelich singled to right. Lockridge made a head-first slide across the plate as the throw from Austin Martin was off line.

Brice Turang went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for Milwaukee.

Trevor Megill retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his 21st save in 23 opportunities. Trevor Larnach led off the ninth with a fly ball that right fielder Luis Lara caught at the warning track.

Aaron Ashby (13-2) worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning to earn the win. Abner Uribe worked the seventh inning in his 20th straight scoreless appearance.

Milwaukee took an early 1-0 lead when Contreras was hit by a Taj Bradley pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out in the first inning. Bradley responded by retiring the next three batters.

The Twins then capitalized on Robert Gasser’s wildness to score three runs in the second.

Gasser hit two batters in that inning and issued a bases-loaded, two-out walk to Ryan Jeffers on a 3-2 pitch inside. Royce Lewis followed with a two-run double to left, extending his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Brewers tied the game when Turang drove in two runs with a bases-loaded, two-out single in the fourth.

Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz left in the fourth inning due to neck tightness.

Minnesota's Kaelen Culpepper was hit by a pitch twice in his second career major league appearance.

Jacob Misiorowski (11-5, 1.63 ERA) pitches for Milwaukee and Connor Prielipp (3-5, 4.75) starts for Minnesota in the series finale Sunday.
