DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies designated starter Michael Lorenzen for assignment Monday in a season in which the right-hander has gone 3-11 with a 7.08 ERA.

Lorenzen hasn't notched a win since June 27.

The Rockies signed the 34-year-old Lorenzen to a one-year deal in January. He was coming off a season when he struck out a career-high 127 in 141 2/3 innings for the Kansas City Royals.

“I love Mike. We developed a really good relationship,” manager Warren Schaeffer said Monday before a three-game series against the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. “It’s just time.”

Righty Tanner Gordon will fill Lorenzen's spot in the rotation. Gordon has appeared in 17 games this season, including five starts, and has a 5.55 ERA.

“TG’s been awesome,” Schaeffer said. “Just keep doing what he’s doing.”

All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman was out of the lineup for a fourth game due to inflammation in his left shoulder.

“Still day-to-day,” Schaeffer said. “We'll re-evaluate tomorrow.”

To take Lorenzen's place on the roster, Colorado recalled righty TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque. Shook has made four appearances with the Rockies this season, posting a 9.53 ERA in 5 2/3 innings. He has 11 saves for the Isotopes this season.

He's open to any sort of role.

“I've been told I’ve been a Swiss Army knife in the past. So whether that’s long relief or short, closing, starting, I’ve started a lot of games,” Shook said. “Honestly, it helps me stay on my toes. I kind of come in with the same mindset — just go out there and pitch, throw up some zeros and get ahead of guys.”

Shook, 28, was taken in the Rule 5 draft from the New York Mets last offseason.

“Shooky is in a position where he’s up and down right now,” Schaeffer said. “Those guys need to do whatever you ask them to do. That's their role. He accepts that with vigor.”

CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs will be without shortstop Dansby Swanson for roughly a month.

Chicago placed the two-time All-Star on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain he suffered during Sunday’s loss to St. Louis. Manager Craig Counsell said he expects Swanson to miss about four weeks.

Second baseman Nico Hoerner moved over to shortstop for Monday night's game against the crosstown White Sox at Wrigley Field.

Swanson is hitting .216 with 18 homers and 66 RBIs in 119 games this season.

Also Monday, Chicago placed right-hander Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister. He made his first start since June 23 — he was sidelined with a hamstring injury — on Sunday but lasted just 3 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Right-hander Daniel Palencia, who has been out for more than two months with an elbow injury, was moved to the 60-day IL in a procedural move. He’s expected to rejoin the bullpen soon.

The Cubs recalled outfielder Kevin Alcantara and right-hander Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa and purchased the contract of infielder Owen Miller from Iowa. Miller signed as a free agent during the offseason after playing last season with Colorado.
