A humanoid robot of Team Tianzhuo finished a 1,500-meter race in two minutes and 21.63 seconds to claim the gold medal at the second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing on Sunday.
At the sound of the starting pistol, robots started running on their respective tracks with explosive acceleration. Navigating the bends with precision, each robot shifted its center of gravity swiftly inward, while maintaining smooth and coherent arm movements.
The race was marked by impressive agility and speed, culminating in Team Tianzhuo's victory as their robot breasted the tape.
"I believe robot games are definitely a platform for showcasing technology. We see that technology is evolving every year, which keeps surprising us, and we are becoming more and more confident that perhaps in the coming years, we'll see these robots helping and serving us in daily life," said Kang Tianyu, a spectator.
The second World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing at the National Speed Skating Oval on Saturday, with the participation of 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries.
The event, running through August 26, features 51 competitions and more than 1,300 matches.
At a 100-meter preliminary race in the opening event, Team Tianzhuo clocked 9.39 seconds to take the first place in a time well ahead of the previous Games' record and the fastest human Usain Bolt's 9.58 world record.

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has expressed strong willingness to enhance cooperation with China to promote the two-state solution and resolve regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
In an exclusive interview with China Central Television, Safadi, who is accompanying King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein on a visit to China, underscored that the Palestinian issue remains the core concern in the Middle East. He highly commended China's clear and principled stance on the issue.
"We appreciate China's clear position within this framework. China supports the two-state solution, and China supports a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. This is a position we respect. We also look forward to China being part of and playing a role in advancing efforts to achieve this solution," he said before his China visit.
Safadi further elaborated on the broader principles for resolving conflicts in the region, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to international law.
"In general, we always want to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. But the basis for this dialogue must be international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and international legitimacy resolutions, while respecting the principles of good-neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs. This is the framework we follow to achieve security and stability," he said.
Safadi expressed optimism about bilateral cooperation with Beijing. "We look forward to cooperating with China, which plays an important role in achieving this goal, achieving a just peace that guarantees the rights of all parties, brings security and stability, and ultimately drives economic development so that all peoples of the region can live with dignity and security."
