Juventus reshapes its goalkeeping unit, adding Kamil Grabara and offloading Perin and Di Gregorio

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Juventus has continued its goalkeeping overhaul by signing a new backup shot-stopper and offloading two other players.

The Bianconeri ended the search for a new, first-choice goalkeeper with the signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham earlier this month.

Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti was promised a new goalkeeper before the season after Michele Di Gregorio made a string of costly errors last campaign.

Di Gregorio was subsequently sent out on a loan to Bournemouth in a season-long deal that was confirmed on Tuesday. Bournemouth has the option to buy Di Gregorio for 12.7 million euros ($14.8 million) plus potential add-ons.

Also on Tuesday, Juventus signed Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara from Wolfsburg on loan. The Bianconeri have the right to sign Grabara permanently for 11.5 million euros ($13.4 million).

That allowed Juventus to sell Mattia Perin to second-division side Palermo on Wednesday.

Perin had been at Juventus since 2018 — although he spent two seasons on loan at Genoa. He was mainly a backup to first Gianluigi Buffon, then Wojciech Szczęsny and subsequently Di Gregorio.

Perin nevertheless made 71 appearances for Juventus, winning two Serie A titles, one Italian Cup, and one Italian Super Cup.

Juventus finished sixth in Serie A last season. It won 1-0 at newly-promoted Frosinone on Sunday in its first match of the new campaign.

EASTLEIGH, England (AP) — Former England forward Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after being involved in a collision on a motorway, police said Wednesday.

The charges relate to an incident on May 28 when a Lamborghini was involved in a “single-vehicle collision” on the M3 in southern England, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said in a statement provided to The Associated Press.

The 31-year-old Sterling is accused of dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide — also known as laughing gas — for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen, said the police force, which added that no other vehicles were involved in the collision and no injuries were reported.

Sterling is due to appear at a magistrates’ court on Sept. 15 for a hearing.

Sterling is currently without a club. He has played for a number of England's top teams — Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal — and was at Dutch club Feyenoord on a short-term deal last season.
