A showcase of China Media Group's latest film and television productions has opened in Cairo on Tuesday, with the programs set to air on Egyptian national television and other major local media outlets through the end of the year.
Nearly ten high-quality productions from China Media Group were featured in the showcase, covering topics ranging from Chinese President Xi Jinping's diplomatic engagements and cultural vision, to China's modernization and dialogues between Chinese and Arab civilizations.
Organizers said the programs offer Egyptian audiences a comprehensive and authentic look at contemporary China and its culture.
"There are many shared values between the Chinese and Egyptian peoples, reflected in our traditions, customs and outlook on life. So Egyptian viewers can easily relate to these programs. They can serve as a bridge for greater cooperation and exchange between Egypt and China," said Mohamed Ali Shouman, an Egyptian scholar who attended the event.
"China should reach out further to the Arab world. Some 400 million people in the region speak Arabic. Chinese culture can be brought to the region through films and television programs in Arabic. This can help strengthen China's diplomatic soft power," said Ali El-Hefny, vice chairman of the Egypt-China Friendship Association.
The showcase follows a similar China Media Group event held in Cairo in 2024.
Egyptian elements featured in Chinese productions have once again captured the attention of local audiences, highlighting the cultural connections between the two countries, according to Mohamed Ibrahim, head of Egyptian National Television.
"China Media Group is producing programs specifically for Egyptian audiences. This will help deepen mutual understanding and bring our two distant countries closer. These programs will help the people of Egypt and China, two ancient civilizations, come even closer together," he said.
