The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has expanded its footprint across major industries, as China has nearly 40 million BeiDou terminal devices in key sectors with overall application penetration standing at about 90 percent, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Monday.
At present, the BeiDou positioning function has basically become a standard configuration in mass consumer products such as smart phones, smart wearable devices and in-vehicle terminals.
In the first half of 2026, more than 98 percent of the 133 million mobile phones shipped in China's domestic market supported the BDS, and the number of BeiDou short message communication users exceeded 55 million.
This technology also expands across transport, public security, smart agriculture and other industries.
In the January-June period, designated sectors including shared two-wheelers, taxis, government vehicles, agricultural machinery and police equipment achieved 100-percent BeiDou adoption in a number of cities, the ministry said.
