The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has recorded 5,945 confirmed Ebola cases, including 2,862 deaths, since this round of outbreak, said the country's health ministry on Sunday.

The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus, was declared by the DRC authorities in May. No licensed vaccine or specific therapy is currently available for this strain.

The World Health Organization said Friday that the outbreak remains a public health emergency of international concern, following the advice of Emergency Committee meeting convened on August 18. It warned that delays in recognizing cases increase the likelihood of onward transmission within households, communities and healthcare facilities.

Japan's benchmark 10-year government bond yield surged to 2.950 percent on Monday, marking its highest level since October 1996 amid rising bets on central bank rate hikes.

The bond yield moves inversely to its price, meaning the sharp rise reflects intensified selling pressure on the government bonds.

Japanese media analysis suggests that rising market expectations for an earlier-than-expected interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan, coupled with a chain reaction triggered by rising long-term interest rates in the United States, are the main reasons for the recent sell-off and price decline of the Japanese government bonds.
