National Ecology Day Exhibition 2026 Launches in Hong Kong to Promote Environmental Awareness and Countryside Culture.

The Countryside Conservation Office (CCO) under the Environment and Ecology Bureau is holding the National Ecology Day (NED) Thematic Exhibition 2026 starting today (September 1) in celebration of the fourth National Ecology Day.

Through a variety of interactive experiences, the exhibition aims to enhance public awareness of the culture and natural ecology of Hong Kong's countryside, encourage members of the public to visit the countryside, and raise their awareness of ecological civilisation and environmental protection, embodying the important concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".

The exhibition comprises three themes. The zones under the theme of "Mirs Bay, Hong Kong" combine the stunning scenery of Yan Chau Tong in Mirs Bay captured by renowned fine art landscape photographer Kelvin Yuen with a moving musical composition created bymusic maestro Tan Dun,the artistic director, presenting a symphony of natural landscapes and world-class music. The zones under the themes of "Nature Conservation" and "Village Stories" feature multimedia interactive elements, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in exploring Hong Kong's rich biodiversity, village culture and stories.

The country had designated August 15 as NED every year since 2023, with a view to enhancing public awareness of ecological civilisation and environmental protection. Hong Kong Customs detects case of non-registered precious metals and stones dealer carrying out specified transactions

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 31) detected a case involving a local company that conducted transactions of diamonds and jewellery containing precious metals and stones valued at over HK$120,000, without registration under the Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Regulatory Regime. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance (Cap. 615), unless exempted, any person who is seeking to carry on a business of dealing in precious metals and stones and engage in any transaction(s) (whether making or receiving a payment) with a total value at or above HK$120,000 in Hong Kong is required to register with Hong Kong Customs. Any dealer, other than a registrant, who claims to be a registrant, claims to be authorised to carry out, or carries out any cash or non-cash transaction(s) with a total value at or above HK$120,000 is liable to a maximum fine of HK$100,000 and imprisonment for six months upon conviction.

Customs reminds dealers in precious metals and stones that they must obtain the relevant registration before they can carry out any cash or non-cash transaction(s) with a total value at or above HK$120,000.
