The DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) authorities should conform to the people's will and stop impeding cooperation and exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, said Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
Zhang made the remarks while dismissing a DPP official's smear on the newly released regulations on exit-entry and cybersecurity management.
"Regarding the regulations on exit-entry administration, it aims to standardize the mainland's exit and entry management, protect the legitimate rights and interests of exit-entry personnel, safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, and create a better legal environment for Taiwan compatriots coming to the mainland," Zhang said.
"The DPP authorities' remarks are completely deliberate misguiding and intentional slander. Frequent mutual visits and more exchanges are conducive for compatriots across the Strait to enhancing mutual understanding and promoting cooperation. People-to-people exchanges across the Strait have a strong endogenous driving force. The DPP regime should follow the will of the people rather than using various means to interfere with and impede exchanges and cooperation across the Strait or incite confrontation and opposition," she said.
