The delegation first visited a Mainland ride-hailing service company to learn about the operation and latest developments of the ride-hailing platform, including the trends in urban traffic management and technological innovation on the Mainland. They later paid a visit to the Beijing Municipal Transportation Operations Coordination Center and met with theBeijing Municipal Commission of Transport to gain insights into the road transport planning in new development areas, as well as the application of technologies including AI, big data analytics and cloud computing to accurately gauge real-time traffic information and assist in the handling of emergencies.

Ms Chan said, "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has been proactively promoting smart mobility in a holistic manner. The regulation of ride-hailing services enables the sustainable market development of personalised point-to-point transport services, safeguards passengers' safety and rights, and facilitates the public's travel needs. With the HKSAR Government introducing and taking forward the regulation of ride-hailing services, this visit allows us to draw on the Mainland's valuable experience in areas such as platform operation and regulation, which will assist Hong Kong in implementing a licensing regime for ride-hailing services."

She added that the HKSAR Government is also studying the establishment of the Traffic Management Platform that leverages AI to identify traffic bottlenecks and formulate contingency plans to enable the swift response to special traffic and transport conditions. Beijing's extensive experience in the setting up of a comprehensive traffic monitoring platform, forecasting and warning, as well as co-operation and co-ordination during emergencies, will help the HKSAR Government in achieving more forward-looking planning for projects including smart traffic.

In the evening, the delegation visited a leading national shipping enterprise to exchange views on the latest developments in shipping and logistics. Ms Chan said that Hong Kong, as the country's southern gateway, enjoys the institutional advantage of being "part of China but outside the Mainland" and possesses highly internationalised strengths including a common law system, free port status and a transparent business environment, making it the closest, safest and most reliable international logistics gateway for Mainland enterprises.

The delegation will continue its visit to Beijing tomorrow (September 4).

Speech by SCST at "Hong Kong Fashion Fest Gala 2026"

Following is the speech by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Miss Rosanna Law, at the "Hong Kong Fashion Fest Gala 2026" today (September 3):

The Honorable Sunny Tan (Chairman of the Hong Kong Fashion Council), Mr Steve Leung (Chairman of the Hong Kong Design Centre), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening, and a very warm welcome to the "Hong Kong Fashion Fest Gala 2026". It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces - and equally inspiring to welcome our friends who join us from every corner of the world - as we gather to celebrate this year's theme: "Rhythm of the Heart".

Building on Hong Kong's unique kinetic pulse and East-meets-West synergy, and with the Government's steadfast backing through the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, our creative ecosystem is thriving. Within this dynamic landscape, fashion design stands as an indisputable driving force.

Now in its third edition, the Hong Kong Fashion Fest continues to champion fashion as a profound art form and a canvas for self-expression - one that weaves together vision, culture, and history. We saw this vividly in the "10 Asian Designers to Watch" showcase just now, which demonstrated fashion's unique ability to resonate, connect, and move us all. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I am sure you did too. My warmest congratulations to all 10 designers. I greatly admire your passion and talent, and look forward with great anticipation to the next chapters of your creative journeys.

I also extend my deep gratitude and congratulations to the Hong Kong Fashion Council for orchestrating this magnificent Gala, and to the Hong Kong Design Centre for curating tonight's unforgettable show. It is through your dedicated efforts that Hong Kong's fashion ambitions shine even brighter on the world stage.

Before I close, I thank each of you for being here with us tonight, and I cordially invite you to immerse yourselves in the exciting array of fashion events taking place across our beautiful city in the coming two weeks. Thank you very much.
