The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Miss Rosanna Law, today (September 4) began her visit to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and kicked off a series of exciting programmes of Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu (HK Week@Chengdu).

Miss Law arrived in Chengdu in the afternoon and attended a Hong Kong tourism networking event organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). At the event, the HKTB highlighted to over 100 tourism trade and media representatives the new global "Only in Hong Kong" campaign, and a diverse line-up of popular mega events scheduled for the second half of the year, including world-class gourmet and wine festivities, international sporting competitions, atmospheric winter celebrations, and New Year countdown activities.

Speaking at the event, Miss Law noted that both Hong Kong and Chengdu boast abundant tourism resources and unique urban charm, and hold great potential for advancing the Chengdu-Hong Kong multi-destination travel model. This approach would help "bring in" more overseas visitors, encouraging them to explore Hong Kong, Chengdu, and other Chinese Mainland cities.

Afterwards, Miss Law paid a courtesy call on Vice-Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr Ouyang Zehua; the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Sichuan Province, Ms Zhang Tao; and the Director General of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Sichuan Province, Mr Chen Guanghao.

In the evening, Miss Law officiated at the opening ceremony of HK Week@Chengdu. The opening programme was the grand dance drama "Kung Fu Artistry" performed by the Hong Kong Dance Company. Choreographer and director Yang Yuntao, art director and costume designer Man Lim-chung, as well as music director and composer Patrick Lui teamed up to blend martial arts, dance, multimedia and jazz into the performance, recounting the legendary story of Bruce Lee's transformation from a street youth to a global star. The Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms Vivian Sum, and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Manda Chan, also attended the opening ceremony.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, HK Week@Chengdu will run from September 4 to 20 in Chengdu. Over a span of 17 days, the arts festival will present about 60 performances, exhibitions and activities, fully demonstrating Hong Kong's diverse cultural strengths. Dance, music, theatre, films, intangible cultural heritage, toy culture and design will each take the stage, bringing a cross-disciplinary arts extravaganza to the Chengdu audience.

Miss Law will continue her visit in Chengdu tomorrow (September 5).

LegCo Transport Panel Explores Autonomous Driving Legislation and Technology During Beijing Visit

LegCo Panel on Transport visits autonomous driving vehicles in Beijing

The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Transport continued its duty visit in Beijing today (September 4) to gain insights into the local legislation on autonomous driving, as well as the technology developments and market trends of unmanned driving.

In the morning, the delegation visited the Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal People's Congress for discussion and exchange on the development and legislation of autonomous driving in Beijing. Members hope to draw reference from the relevant statutory and institutional frameworks established by the Beijing Municipal Government, as well as its experience in implementing the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Policy Pilot Zone, with a view to offering advice and recommendations on promoting the driverless and large-scale development of autonomous vehicles in Hong Kong.

The delegation proceeded to Yizhuang Economic and Technological Development Area to visit Didi Chuxing to understand testing of autonomous vehicles in the afternoon. As the world's first high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone, Yizhuang features diverse application scenarios and digital technology support for enterprises to conduct simulation tests. Members rode in autonomous vehicles travelling through different scenarios in the area to experience the vehicles' performance in automatic steering and positioning.

The delegation also visited Beijing Innovation Demonstration Zone for Coordinated Development of Smart City Infrastructure and Intelligent Connected Vehicles in Yizhuang, and exchanged views with representatives of the zone on innovative developments in autonomous driving.

The delegation then went to Baidu Apollo Park to observe its research and development in autonomous driving, big data application and maintenance technology, as well as to understand the development of its autonomous ride-hailing service platform. Members took a ride to experience how autonomous vehicles navigate complex and heavy traffic at busy intersections. Members exchanged views with representatives of the enterprise on the development trends of autonomous vehicles, precision vehicle control and alignment with smart transport infrastructure.

The delegation will continue its duty visit in Beijing tomorrow (September 5) and depart for Hong Kong in the afternoon.

A total of 13 members and non-members of the Panel on Transport participated in the duty visit. The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Ms Mable Chan, also led a government delegation to join the duty visit.
