U.S. dollar ticks up

The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.27 percent to 99.177 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1611 dollars from 1.1635 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3514 dollars from 1.3539 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.22 Japanese yen, higher than 155.5 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.8102 Swiss francs from 0.8068 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3839 Canadian dollars from 1.3788 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 9.5775 Swedish kronor from 9.5365 Swedish kronor.

International gold and silver prices closed lower on Friday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery lost 1.39 percent to settle at 4,476.60 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for December delivery dipped 1.41 percent to close at 66.748 dollars per ounce.
