International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said an IAEA-brokered localized ceasefire took effect Saturday to enable repairs to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP)'s sole power line.
The agency noted in a statement on its official website that due to military activity on the northern side of the Dnipro River, the plant lost the connection to its sole remaining power line, the 330 kilovolt Ferosplavna-1, on August 20. Since then, the ZNPP has depended on emergency diesel generators to cool its six reactors and spent fuel pools.

Chen Wenqing, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov on Thursday in Beijing.
Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, said this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination.
It is hoped that the two sides will implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, step up exchanges and cooperation in judicial training for judges and the application of artificial intelligence in justice, improve the quality and effectiveness of cross-border judicial assistance, and strengthen collaboration on multilateral rule-of-law platforms, Chen said.
Krasnov said the Russian side stands ready to deepen judicial exchanges and cooperation between the two countries to serve the high-level development of bilateral ties.
