The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.23 percent to 99.048 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.1613 dollars from 1.1630 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3513 dollars from 1.3546 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 154.32 Japanese yen, higher than 153.60 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8129 Swiss francs from 0.8103 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3830 Canadian dollars from 1.3806 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.6782 Swedish kronor from 9.6009 Swedish kronor.

International gold and silver prices closed lower on Thursday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery lost 1.20 percent to settle at 4,407.30 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for December delivery dropped 5.42 percent to close at 64.927 dollars per ounce.
