LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Haiti’s World Cup defender Hannes Delcroix scored a quick-fire hat trick to lift Swiss league leader Lugano to another win Sunday and almost double his career goals tally.
The 27-year-old Delcroix had scored just four times in club soccer before getting three goals between the 35th and 52nd minutes in a 4-0 win at last-place Lausanne. His two headers and a left-foot shot all came from crosses at set-pieces.
In Delcroix’s first full season in the Swiss league, Lugano is six points clear after nine rounds and averaging three goals per game in chasing the club’s first title since 1949.
Delcroix played every minute of Haiti’s three games at the World Cup in June, losing to Scotland, Brazil and Morocco. It was the island team's first World Cup for 52 years.
The Haiti-born center back had switched national eligibility last October from Belgium, where he grew up. Delcroix represented Belgium at youth level and played one friendly for the senior team in 2020 against Switzerland.
Delcroix previously played for Anderlecht and Burnley when both were coached by Vincent Kompany, who is now at German champion Bayern Munich.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele were carted off the field with injuries on consecutive plays on the opening drive of the game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
The Packers announced Reed has a neck injury, while Bewele hurt a knee. Both were ruled out for the rest of the game.
On the Packers' second offensive play, Reed caught a short pass from Jordan Love and was hit hard by Demario Davis after a 4-yard gain. But the Packers wide receiver went down quickly and was face down on the turf and writhing in pain.
Packers trainers and medical personnel immediately rushed onto the field to check on Reed, who was turned over onto his back. After a few minutes, Reed was strapped on a back board and loaded onto the cart as the entire Packers sideline surrounded him — many of them on a knee and praying.
After a delay of several minutes, play resumed and Love threw an incompletion on third down. Bako-Bewele, who was blocking Jets rookie pass rusher David Bailey, was down and punching the turf.
The medical staff came out again — along with the entire Packers sideline — and Bako-Bewele was helped onto a cart. He was sitting up, slapped hands with teammates wishing him well and waved as he was driven inside the stadium.
